| Argentina is often referred to as the land of contrasts. Not to mention Patagonia - a name reflecting mistery - a land of wind triggering dreams of endless open spaces and solitude. Here you can find a varietal animal world full of species ranging from beef herds to penguines, sea-lions, seals and even whales. Argentines love to eat. First-class beef and pasta are the two favourite plates of the national menu. Besides the apparent Spanish influence a lot of Italian customs can be noticed. You should not miss enjoying together with a bottle of red wine a safty beef steak made over charcoal in one of the numerous "parillas". Argentines rarely eat before 9 pm and on weekends dinner can last until well after midnight. Argentine celebrities such as Evita Perón, Che Guevara, Diego Maradona, Carlos Gardel or Astor Piazzolla have gained worldwide reputation. Football is the big passion of all Argentines and the country's most popular sports.
